A little insight into the PBX world

When I try to explain what I do to people, the most common reaction is a blank face with the question “what is a PBX?” If you fall into the category of people who do not know what a PBX system is, then today is your lucky day.

PBX, which stands for private branch exchange, is a telephone exchange that works for a specific group of phones (for example a business) rather than an entire phone carrier (for example AT&T).

Historically the term PBX applied to process that the operators would use back when they would have to manually connect the caller via a switchboard. As technology improved the PBX phone system required a lot of expensive equipment as well as a person to maintain the system. But now in the 21st century, we have hosted PBX phone systems.

Our hosted PBX phone systems allow customers to enjoy all of the features that go with the standard PBX systems but for a fraction of the cost. A few of the most common features are…

Auto Attendant
• Dial by Name Directory
• Call Forwarding
• Custom Greetings (we can even do a professional recording for you)
• Music on Hold
• Daytime and Afterhours Greetings
• Voicemail
• Find Me/ Follow Me

AccessDirect allows for even small businesses who previously could not afford to spend the tens of thousands of dollars it costs to purchase the equipment, to have the opportunity to sound larger.

Hosted PBX - Full-featured Phone System

Hosted PBX is a full-featured phone system ensuring attractive benefits to small as well as home businesses in a cost-effective manner. The common function of a hosted PBX system is to connect the business with its clients and customers. Hosted communication features are provided through dedicated VOIP technology. All functionalities are supported by hosted PBX with no additional equipment to buy or maintain.

A hosted system can effectively maintain communication within the company as well as the outside network. Businesses benefit from a full-featured phone system with facilities such as extension dialing, auto attendant, call forwarding, call acceptance, call screening, caller ID, call holding, message alerts, voice mail and fax to mail and many more. Call routing options include dial by name or dial by extension. Multiple extensions for employees and departments can be set up. When customers make calls to the main phone number, the hosted PBX will transfer the calls to these extensions.

Through advanced features such as find me follow me call forwarding, a hosted PBX helps small businesses to create a big business image. Through call forwarding, calls can be forwarded to a set of multiple extensions. If all phone lines are busy, the call will be diverted to user-friendly voice mail box. Callers can leave their personal messages in the voice mail box.

The set up and configuration of hosted PBX features are done through web portal. Users can customize communication features as per their specific business needs. You can completely manage the PBX features through web access. It is possible to add new extensions, access voice mail, set new professional business greetings, change voice prompts and update other communication features.

Hosted PBX providers offer various service packages for businesses of all sizes. All the phone features can be connected to your local phone number or toll-free number. By comparing various service providers, you can select right service plan that meets your specific business requirements and one that grows with your business.
